Sarnki District dates from 1973. In 1975 it became a part of Biała Podlaska Voivodeship/province. In 1999, due to administration reforms, Sarnaki returned to the Mazovia region and joined Łosice County. The administrative unit of the commune is situated in the centre of the Sarnaki village.
Health care is provided by the local family clinic in Sarnaki with specialists like an internist, podiatrist and a dentist.
In the region there are 12 fire brigade units. The Sarnaki unit belongs to the National Service.
The district has a rural character. There are about 1300 farms. Manufactures and factories are rather rare in this area. The biggest institution employing the greatest number of workers is a gas pump in Hołowczyce. Another significant institution is Forest Inspectorate responsible for local forests. In Sarnaki there are also two petrol stations. The biggest private institutions are fruit and vegetable manufacture and a factory of boats and fishing equipment, a factory of foil, the bakery, the butcher’s and a few big sawmills. There are many other smaller trade and service institutions. In total they constitute 185 organizations of this kind.
Infrastructure service includes 110 km. of water-supply pipes, 12 km. sewage system, there are 3 public and 12 private purification plants. There is a 24 kilometre gas system covering 4 villages. The whole district has an access to the telephone services including cellular system.
